About the teacher
My name is Diane Hubbard and I have been teaching high school chemistry for over 36 years. I have been teaching for this length of time because I love what I do. I enjoy working with my students and I am passionate about education and chemistry.
I love O'Connor high school! As a matter of fact, my two children, Katherine and Brian, graduated from OC in 2018 and 2020. My son is a 2024 graduate from the United States Air Force Academy and as of Aug1, 2024 is headed to pilot training where he will be part of the Euro-Nato fighter pilot alliance. My daughter just graduated from nursing school and will be working as an RN the same day my son leaves for his base. My daughter ran track at PVCC and my son was a decathlete at USAFA. I miss having my children at home but fortunately I am able to spend time with your children (and between you and I, they are the best part of the job)!
I have always been drawn to science. I started my career as a fisheries biologist where I spent months out on the Bering Sea on a Japanese trawler, on the Colorado River in the Grand Canyon with AZ Game and Fish and even on the rim of the Canyon watching Big Horn sheep (you can ask me about this later)! As you can see, these were interesting jobs but I longed to be around people and that is when I decided to go back to school for my teaching certification. I have never regretted it!
Even after 36 years the excitement of the first day of school is always there. I am thrilled to get to know all of you this year!
