As part of our DVUSD Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), our school offers Behavioral Academies for students who may benefit from more intensive, small-group behavioral support. These academies meet twice a week for up to twenty minutes during Talon Time for up to four weeks. At Sandra Day O’Connor High School, we are committed to supporting students in learning from infractions. One approach we use to achieve this is through Behavior Academies. They are a structured forms of alternative discipline in conjunction with the DVUSD Student Rights & Responsibilities handbook. The purpose of the Behavior Academies is to help students reflect on their actions and learn replacement strategies that can be used instead of the behavior that led to an infraction. Our goal is not only to address the issue at hand, but also to equip students with the tools moving forward. Participation in Behavior Academies is voluntary. If you prefer, you may opt your child out of a specific academy when called by the school if an infraction occurs. Our goal is to provide supportive, growth-focused opportunities for students to learn replacement strategies and make positive choices. By participating, students gain strategies they can apply in the classroom, at home, and in life. This proactive approach not only corrects behavior but also promotes lasting growth and success. Thank you for partnering with us in creating a positive and safe learning environment for all students.
