Hi! My name is Kristy Carey. I started teaching at O’Connor 2025-26. I’ve been a special education teacher since 2001 and have taught at two other DVUSD schools, as well as in another district in the valley. I’m originally from Illinois, but have lived in AZ since 1999. My husband and I have 2 daughters and 3 dogs. Our youngest daughter graduated from O’Connor in May! I love the St. Louis Cardinals, Dbacks, and Phoenix Suns.

 I’m so excited to get to know new students, as well as see some familiar faces from previous years!

Hi! My name is Dawn Hansen and this is my 5th year working in DVUSD. I have had children attending consecutively in the district since 2008. I've been involved in various ways and began substitute teaching in 2019. I was a long-term substitute in the Transition to Work Program before signing my contract at Sandra Day O'Connor High School in 2023. I have a degree from BYU-I that I was able to finish while raising my 5 children. I enjoy spending time with my husband Joe, anything outdoors, and spending time with my new grandbaby who is currently my favorite child. I believe in these students and enjoy helping them discover what they are interested in and helping them with their post-secondary goals. Looking forward to a great year!

Hello and welcome. I am so excited to be your teacher this year! Originally from New York, I studied Theater, a background that proved to be a seamless fit for teaching by helping me create engaging, interactive, and creative lessons. I later earned my Master’s degree from Grand Canyon University to further my lifelong passion for education and student success. My goal as an educator is to build an inspiring, supportive classroom where every student feels confident to grow. Outside of school, I love staying active by working out and spending time in the kitchen because I love to cook. You can also frequently find me curled up with a good book or watching a great movie. At home, I am the proud parent of three wonderful children who were all SDOHS Eagles. I am honored to serve our school community and look forward to a fantastic year of learning together!

I was born and raised in Arizona and have been teaching here for more than 29 years. Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of working with students from 1st grade through high school. I hold both bachelor's and master's degrees in General Education and Special Education. Outside of the classroom, I enjoy hiking, camping, and paddle boarding, and I love exploring Arizona's beautiful outdoors with family and friends.
