About the teacher
Hello and welcome to Sandra Day O'Connor! My name is Mrs. Micaela Corponi and I teach English Language Arts 3-4 and Honors. I have a BA from Arizona State University in Secondary Education English and a Structured English Immersion Endorsement.
I have learned that the ability to better one’s self is the most empowering gift to give an individual. Every day students are given this gift. Teachers instill the desire for knowledge, growth, and perseverance, which is my drive in being a teacher.
"My vision is to inspire students to reach beyond what they believe they are capable, by nurturing their strengths and challenging their minds."
I am a part of a community of educators who believe strongly in what they do. I look forward to an amazing school year!

About the teacher
2024-25 marks my 34th year of teaching, and I love it. While attending Arizona State University (go Sun Devils), I completed my student teaching at Desert Sky Middle School. After graduation, I was lucky enough to be hired on there. When Stetson Hills opened, I decided to make the move as it was closer to my house. I could now walk to work-not that I did, but I could if I wanted to. I opened that school teaching 7th grade, moved to 8th grade the following year and then moved to Sandra Day O’Connor with those same students. I love being at the high school level. These students have so much talent and such a unique perspective on various topics that I learn so much from them.
Personally, I have been married for 33 years. We have three wonderful children that have all gone through the Deer Valley District. We love all things Disney and visit Disneyland several times a year. Collecting and selling vintage items is our hobby, and we even own three jukeboxes. Our children have a very diverse knowledge in music.
I am looking forward to a wonderful year with fun-filled, relevant and rewarding learning experiences.

About the teacher
Hello!
My name is Ms. Shawna Fleegle and I teach English Language Arts at Sandra Day O'Connor High School. I am excited to be working with an amazing group of Seniors this year! In addition to my role as a teacher, I am also the Senior Level Leader for the English Language Arts Department, a member of the Tech Rich Committee, and a Senior Mentor teacher.
To give you just a little bit of my personal background, I am the proud mother of an incredible daughter who is a former OC grad, so parents, I can relate. Family is everything to me, whether it be my personal family or my OC family. I am passionate about all of the arts and chose to pursue a teaching degree in English to introduce my students to a greater appreciation of reading and writing. You are likely to run into me at every play, improv performance and dance recital in total awe of how talented our students truly are, so be sure to stop by and say "Hi!"
I Believe:
*Reading can be one of life’s great escapes.
*Writing is one of the most powerful forms of self-expression.
*Language has the ability to transform a person’s entire identity.
*Every human being should find his/her/their own voice.
*Every student is uniquely talented.
*Every person has the capacity to learn, grow and succeed.
*Every teacher should truly and deeply care about ALL of their students!
My primary goal this semester is to discover the talents, strengths, and individual assets of each of my students. My job is to ensure that they succeed, not only in the classroom, but in life. I have an open line of communication and encourage all students and parents to contact me any time you have a question or even some good news to share! I look forward to becoming well acquainted with each and every one of you this year!

About the teacher
I am honored to be teaching at Sandra Day O'Connor! The 2024-2025 school year will mark my 23rd year teaching. Previously, I taught at Saguaro High School in Scottsdale. In 2015, I was Deer Valley Unified School District's Teacher of the Year, which was a huge honor and blessing. In addition, I am the recipient of Rio Salado's 2015-2016 Outstanding Adjunct Faculty Award.I currently teach ELA 7-8, COM 100, Creative Writing, Intro to Journalism and Digital Communication, and Newspaper. I am also the Educational Technology Department Chair. I was raised in Illinois and attended the University of Illinois (Go Illini!!) where I received my Bachelor of Arts degree. After living in Santa Barbara, California for two years, I decided to move back to Illinois to obtain my Master of Arts degree from Barat College of DePaul University. Fun fact is my husband also works at OC as lead security and is a freshman football coach! We live in the Deer Valley School District, and we love the Valley of the Sun! We have two beautiful children named Callie and Shay, two dogs named Gracie Rae and Oakley. I have always been an avid learner; subsequently, my goal is to foster a classroom where a love for learning thrives. Empower yourself through learning.

About the teacher
Mrs. Kristi Kroeger graduated from Utah State University in 2003 with a Bachelors of Science degree in English Education. While it had always been her dream to teach, she married a military man in her last semester of her undergraduate studies, and moved to Virginia where she was not certified to teach, and instead worked in non-profit arts education. Mrs. Kroeger then stayed home with her four children and tutored children in the local neighborhoods for 16 years. When her youngest went to kindergarten, she went back to the classroom to teach elementary school. During the first two years back in the classroom on an emergency credential, Mrs. Kroeger also attended Rio Salado’s elementary education certification program and graduated with a 3.9 GPA. During those years she also created the Musical Theater After School Program at Diamond Canyon which is currently in its 5th year and serves 30 to 40 students annually. She proudly joined the Diamond Canyon School staff in 2016 and brought her knowledge and humor into her fourth grade classroom for 4 years. The 2020-21 school year she moved to 6th grade ELA where she served as MTSS Campus Coordinator, Musical Theater Program Director, and Campus Interventionist at Diamond Canyon School. Mrs. Kroeger is the recipient of several Deer Valley Unified School District STAR awards, Top Growth Score in the district awards, was the Teacher of the Month through State Farm Insurance in the 2018-19 school year, and was a Deer Valley Education Foundation Teacher of the Year in the 2020-21 year. From 2018-2020 she served as a 4th grade team lead as part of the campus leadership team. In 2018 Mrs. Kroeger also attended the National PLC Conference which has guided her educational practices, and has given multiple campus Professional Developments teaching other teachers how to make data driven decisions in interventions and extensions. Currently Mrs Kroeger teaches at Sandra Day O'Connor High School as a 10th grade ELA teacher and serves as the school's Campus Intervention Coordinator.

During my time at SDOHS, I have grown to love the students, teachers, and faculty. Outside of teaching, I enjoy reading, thrifting, and spending time with family!
